Every BoardWorks board comes with hanging hooks, so installing one takes a few minutes.
What you need
- A drill and a masonry bit to suit your wall plugs
- Wall plugs and screws suited to your wall (brick, block or concrete)
- A spirit level, pencil and measuring tape
Choose the height
- Classrooms: set the bottom edge of the board about 90 cm (3 feet) from the floor for younger children, and a little higher for older students, so everyone can reach and read it.
- Offices and meeting rooms: place the centre of the board at about 150 cm (5 feet), roughly eye level.
- Noticeboards in corridors: centre them at eye level so notices can be read without bending or stretching.
Steps
1. Hold the board against the wall at the height you want and mark where the hooks sit, or measure the hook positions on the back of the board.
2. Check the marks with a spirit level.
3. Drill, insert wall plugs, and fix the screws, leaving them standing out enough to hang the hooks on.
4. Hang the board and check it is level.
Large boards
A 4' × 8' board is large and heavy. Use two people to lift and hang it, and use strong fixings suited to the wall.
Plaster and partition walls
Use fixings designed for your wall type, or fix into the frame of a partition. If in doubt, ask a local handyman.
